What Is Polyurethane Injection?

Polyurethane injection — also known as polyfoam injection, polyjacking, slab jacking, and other terms — is a method of foundation repair where flexible polyurethane foam is injected into minimally invasive 3/8” holes we drill in a concrete slab, where it travels under a structure and expands to the point that it lifts a building back into its intended position.

Polyurethane starts as a pressurized liquid foam that expands, similar to shaving cream. The form then dries to a hard, Styrofoam-like material. In fact, it is so strong that it is used to fix sagging, uneven roads. When used to repair foundations, polyurethane injections act like a larger-scale version of a Fix-A-Flat product by “filling and patching” cracks, holes, and voids.

Why Use Polyerethane?

  • COST EFFECTIVE
Concrete raising is typically about half the cost of replacing the same concrete. Ultimately, the cost of raising or stabilizing concrete is a direct reflection of how much leveling material the project will require.
  • TIME
Ready to use immediately! As oppose to taking out the old slab, framing the new slab, and waiting the concrete to set up. Your slab problem will only worsen in time, fix it now and avoid the hassle later. Raising concrete with foam often only takes a couple of hours and is ready immediately upon completion.
  • CLEAN WORK ENVIRONMENT
No concrete or grout splatter and no wash down needed.
  • SMALL HOLES
Polyurethane concrete raising drills a nearly invisible 3/8-inch hole and the process calls for considerably fewer holes than traditional Mudjacking; Minimal patchwork needed.
  • LIGHTWEIGHT
This material will never lose density, is permanent and weighs only about 2-4 lbs. per cubic foot. Compared to traditional Mudjacking material weighs on average 100 lbs. per cubic foot.

How Does Polyurethane Injection Work?

Polyfoam injection projects are very quick and simple to perform compared to older, more traditional methods of foundation repair. It is also a much cheaper alternative because it requires less material and manpower.

The process is as follows:

  • Step 1: We drill small holes into the slab where the foundation is compromised in order to access the underground soil for polyfoam injection.

  • Step 2: Polyfoam injections are delivered into the drilled holes, where it fills the voids underground and eventually expands and hardens, raising the concrete foundation to a leveled position.

  • Step 3: Upon completion, the drilled holes are filled and covered with fresh cement.

Aside from raising the foundation of structures, polyfoam injections are also helpful in raising and repairing uneven walkways, driveways, bridge easements, concrete patios, pool decks, and much more.

SURFACE VS DEEP FOAM INJECTIONS USING POLYURETHANE

Level Check Foundation Repair conducts both surface and deep polyfoam injections to fix foundation problems for residential and commercial structures.

  • For foundation issues directly under the concrete, surface polyurethane foam injections can be an effective solution.
  • For more severe foundational problems, deep foam injections are ideal to strengthen the foundation, stabilize the soil, and prevent erosion.

By having one of our professionals inspect your building’s foundation, we can accurately determine which method is best for your situation.

Why Would I Need Deep Foam Injections?

Foundation issues are not always a result of what’s directly under the concrete. Soil composition can change at a variety of depths and voids or ground water deposits can effect soil layers above. When issues are deep underground, deep foam injections are an appropriate and cost-effective solution. Foam can be injected at various depths to increase the load bearing capacity of the soils. This application is perfect for soil stabilization, seawall repair and deep void filling on any residential or commercial projects.

Why Use Deep Foam Injections?

AN UPGRADE FROM SUBSURFACE LIFTING

Deep foam injections repair unstable soil and fills voids deep underground to provide more than a surface level fix. It is considered a permanent repair that never changes shape or absorbs ground water.

LOW OBTRUSION

or through injection holes in a slab.  It is less obtrusive than installing pressed pilings. It will provide a stronger subgrade to support slabs and structures that settled.

SAFE FOR ENVIRONMENT

Deep foam injections fill voids and displaces ground water without leaching any chemicals into the ground. This is an environment friendly non-toxic product which will not erode or decay.

QUICK

These injections follow the path of resistance to quickly target the problem areas and correct your foundation issues. As it expands it binds the soil making it solid.

Steps to Deep Injection

Steel rods are strategically driven into the soil at pre-determined depths. Once everything is prepped and the hose and materials are in place, the polyurethane foam is injected through the rods and follows the path of least resistance to correct soil issues deep underground.
